Layoffs Provide Opportunity

Recent layoffs in the US have left many on visas wondering what comes next. If you're looking to hire, don't put off your hiring plans as these talented people may not be around for very long.

With all the recent news of large-scale layoffs, the one bright spot is that for companies looking to hire, there is now an abundance of high-quality talent available. If your company is in a position to act quickly, now is the time to fill your open roles.

Those impacted by recent layoffs who are in the US on an H-1B visa have 60 days from their last day of employment to find a new employer who will sponsor them or they will have to leave the country. Which means that for (roughly) the next month and a half, there is an opportunity to attract great talent to your team that might not have otherwise been available.

When it comes to hiring employees that require a visa, it is much easier to hire current H-1B visa holders than it is to apply for a new H-1B visa as transferring an H-1B visa to a new employer does not count against annual H-1B visa caps. The good news is that H-1B holders can start working for a new employer as soon as they receive notice of a pending visa application from the new employer. Which means that as long as you file all necessary paperwork before the end of the 60 day grace period, your new employee will be able to start work immediately.
